Random Thoughts about Buenos Aires

Life in Buenos Aires is a lot different than Shanghai. First of all I am living with a family which is a huge change from living with just Pepperdine students. But living with a family has been an amazing experience thus far. We usually eat dinner around 9/930 and my host mom is really good cook so its awesome! I usually go to sleep around 12/100. I eat breakfast at home and lunch out in the city somewhere.

The Pepperdine house is only a 5 minute walk for me so getting to class on time is pretty easy. On average I have two classes a day. I spend most of my day at the Pepperdine house; hanging out, studying…etc. Then I come home around 7 study some more and eat dinner and go to bed.

On non- school nights I go out to the beleches or clubs. The clubs here play a lot of house music/ techno music. The clubs here are pretty fun, but they do not compare to the ones in Shanghai.

I speak Spanish on a daily basis, in order to improve my skills. The problem is that sometimes I start speaking Chinese, but I correct my self.

The neighborhood I live in is very nice, it is very European looking. I live in a part of Buenos Aires called Belgrano on Teodoro Garcia. The subte or subway is about a 5 minute walk so it is relatively easy to get around the city and there are always buses going.

I usually eat milanesa which is fried beef or chicken, dulce de leche, empanadas, and mate tea. I eat a lot of dessert as well my favorite is chocolate pudding with dolce de leche on top with Oreo crumbs on top!

One question that I have been asked a lot since being here is how does Buenos Aires compare to Shanghai? I always respond by saying that the cities are too different to even compare. The cultures are complete opposites. Buenos Aires is a lot more colorful and lively. Shanghai is more westernized and more advanced in technology. The food in Argentina is really blan, whereas the food in Shanghai is very flavorful. Everyone in Buenos Aires works out, in Shanghai very little do. Shanghai offers a greater variety of food choices, where as Buenos Aires is meat, meat and more meat. They are both very family oriented though and are both extremely caring cultures. Shanghai is a much safer city than Buenos Aires as well. As of right now this are the major differences that stand out to me. I’ll keep posting the differences as the semester moves a long.

Next I have my educational field to Patagonia!
